To gain deeper insights into this transformative legislation, we turn to the wisdom and perspectives of Indigenous elders, whose lived experiences and cultural knowledge provide invaluable context for understanding the impact legislation will have on our children and families.
We have consulted them in every event, meeting, and gathering throughout the engagement/capacity building process. Elders are represented on our monthly Steering and Elders Advisory Committee meetings, providing a comforting and stable support in all of our sessions.
Additionally, we developed an Elder's Advisory Language group, consisting of 2 representatives from each Nation. These respected and knowledgeable Elder's met monthly, following each Steering Committee law drafting session, to review the draft as it was formed, collectively coming to a consensus on terms that will be translated to Ininew and Denesuline in the English version of the Law.
These Elder videos serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience, wisdom, and enduring strength of Indigenous peoples. By listening to their voices, we deepen our understanding of Bill C-92's potential to transform lives and honor the rights of First Nations people. More importantly, we gain a greater appreciation for the role of elders as guardians of cultural knowledge and advocates for future generations.
